TITLE: Recent Developments in Non-Equal Characteristic Iwasawa Theory
ABSTRACT: Iwasawa theory traditionally explores how arithmetic objects (like ideal class groups and Selmer groups) grow in infinite towers of number fields. Historically, this research has focused on the p-primary parts of these objects within extensions built from the same prime p, such as those generated by p-power roots of unity.
But what happens when these primes are different? Can we decipher the p-primary structure over extensions constructed using an entirely different prime q? In this talk, we will review classical foundations and highlight recent work in this mixed-prime setting. Additionally, we will explore new developments surrounding a lesser-known folklore conjecture.
